SOCHUM

The 3rd committee of the General Assembly, known as the Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee, focuses on wide-ranged issues related to fundamental human rights in the international community. It serves as a platform that promotes and represents international cooperation in which all of the 193 member-states take an active place. SOCHUM has the goal of designing peaceful settlements concerning issues such as but not limited to, the advancement of women, protection of children, global literacy, the treatment of refugees, the elimination of racism and discrimination, and the promotion of social development. In KMUN 2022 the three topics that will be discussed within the delegates of the third committee(SOCHUM) are tackling the issue of exacerbating extreme weather events caused by climate change, all of which constitute grave humanitarian crises and threaten human health, preserving the cultural and historical heritage of the nations in armed turmoil, with special emphasis on cultural sites in the UNESCO World Heritage List and strengthening precautions and measures taken to combat international human trafficking, with special emphasis on the Arab States of the Persian Gulf.

AGENDA ITEMS

I. Tackling the issue of exacerbating droughts, famines, wildfires, heatwaves, and other extreme weather events caused by climate change, all of which constitute grave humanitarian crises and threaten human health.

II. Preserving the cultural and historical heritage of the nations in armed turmoil, with special emphasis on cultural sites in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

III. Strengthening precautions and measures taken to combat international human trafficking, with special emphasis on the Arab States of the Persian Gulf.
